I just walked from the University Avenue to my dormitory for the last time. It was such a privileged to experience strolling around the campus in the middle of the night. It’s been almost 3 years when I first reside here. I am very thankful to live in the most peaceful, intellectual, relaxing community here in Metro Manila. I will definitely miss my dormmates in the International Center. I will treasure the exciting events and happenings that happened here. The midnight jogging, dine out, photo sessions isaw trip, tambay in Katipunan, community Pot luck and Gimiks are just few of the things that I will remember. I met here the most famous UP students, student leaders, diverse international community representatives and interesting personalities residing in one roof.

Throughout my stay here, I am very fortunate to found new friends (both Pinoys and Foreigners) for the last few years. Also, I am very thankful and blessed to have three past roommates; Daiki, a Japanese guy from Tokyo University during my first year of stay here; Jeong Yo Kim or Russell, a Korean who loves the Philippines very much; and the latest is Ryo Sakai, an intelligent Japanese exchange student from Soka University)
Of course, I will wish my Pinoy friends, who already left I.C. and the few people who will still stay till the next semester, good luck to their careers and hoping to meet them again soon. I am also thankful to the dorm manager for being so patient and helpful to us.

As a friend posted on my Facebook account…C’est t la vie . Yup . Such is life.

Tomorrow will be a next chapter. New home. New workstation.( I will party on Friday after a long time. Ehehhehe.) And I wish my self...Goodluck . Lastly, I want to say thank you to all the people I mingled, socialized and hang out with in the best residence hall in the University of the Philippines..

I 'Heart' the Holidays

In an Internet article I read this morning, the full moon tonight will be the biggest one of the year as Earth's natural satellite reaches its closest point to our planet. There are different superstitious beliefs and scientific myth and facts that we associate to it. One example that $#@n and I believe is that there is a big possibility that couples will have misunderstandings during a full moon that's why we make sure that both of us go out together or communicate through phone. :-)

Im now in Angeles. I promised myself that I will avoid sweets and fatty foods. But unfortunately, my breakfast this morning are doughnuts, rice and bacon :-( . Can I just postpone the diet thing on January since its holiday season :-)

The Sagada plan on Christmas is not yet final since my dad is asking us to reschedule it or we look for a different place for holidays. But my kuya(as always) is insisting taht we should push through the plan.Now I feel that nasa gitna ako ng naguumpukang bato.ehehe.

Today is UP's Para Sa Bayan one day public service event in Diliman. The event will start with a photoshoot of wannabe Obles in Amphitheater featuring 100 selected students, faulty and staff who will pose naked for media and artists and photographers. Also, there will be free dental, medical, legal services for the people and a Kasalang Bayan for the couples who want to get married with other couples at the same time.

The UP International Center will be joining the Centennial Lantern Parade on Wednesday. We at the dorm are really excited for the event since this is ourt first time to join the event. Our lantern was designed by an undergrad student and we are really proud to show to the UP community the fruit of our hardwork and cooperation.

I’m so stressed out for the past 3 days. An average of 4 hours of sleep. Exams. Submissions. IC preparations. Buti na lang may pampaalis ako ng stress for the past days. Dinner..grocery..a quick meet up..and just hanging out with YOU really make it easier for me to get by with a lot of anxiety I’m experiencing for the past days.
--
I’m thinking of buying a new laptop that I can use in office or in the dorm. I’m tired of bringing my Dell laptop every day at work and back at the dorm. But with my recent purchases of gadgets and a lot of bills that I need to pay, I really don’t know if I can buy that extra computer soon.
--
Tonight will be the International Center’s annual International Night that will showcase different cultural presentations from the different communities in the IC. Last night, the Korean and African movie night was quite a success but unfortunately, I need to attend a lot of meetings and working meetings for the preparations for the International night.
--
Jun Lozada will be in UP today at 4 pm…students from different schools like UST, Ateneo, La Salle will also be here for a youth / students gathering concerning the still controversial NBN-ZTE deal controversy.

International Week 08

It’s the first day of the International Week celebration in our dorm and a lot of activities were lined-up. To start the week-long festivity, a parade and the annual raising of different flags was held in Quezon Hall and in the UP International Center’s grounds. A brunch was prepared to all the participants and guests. A slight problem happened when the Vietnamese National Anthem’s CD is somewhat missing. But in general, the event was a successful one. The second event was held last night. It’s a forum about the Human Rights violation in the Philippines specifically in Cagayan Valley region. Were expecting Sen. Jamby Madrigal as our guest speaker but she didn’t arrived. (Dahil siguro mainit sya sa news ths past days).Nonetheless, the forum was so informative wherein human rights victims shared their experiences to the listeners and a reaction was given at the end by Representative Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna partylist.

Today’s event is the Food Festival wherein foods and products of different communities will be showcased in I.C.’s lobby. Communities include the Korean, Japanese, Filipino, South East Asian, European, Americas, Africans, Middle Eastern. Personally, I’m looking forward to the Japanese sushi and the Korean kimchi and bulgogi.

UP-IC Filipino Night

Filipino Night was a success. For more than a month of preparation, the well-planned event was as successful as intended. I just realized after the event that I have some hidden talents in event planning, stage concept, posters and video presentation. I am proud that a lot of people appreciated. But, the performers themselves are the main reason for the success of the event. We had performances by the UP Singing Ambassadors with their conductor and founder Ed Manguiat;the soultry Engkantada; the energetic Hip-Hop dancers applicants from the UP Street Dance; my favorites Kontra-Gapi group; and the beautiful Japanese Exchange Students dancing in Filipiniana dresses. Even the emcees are great. With the help and cooperation of all the Filipino students in IC, I can proudly say that the event is really a success.

Di ko maintindihan kung ano mararamdaman ko pagkatapos mabasa ang friendster account ni Cris Anthony Mendez na diumanoy pumanaw dahil sa hazing. What a short life yun lang ang naunang sumagi sa aking isip. I can’t imagine on how his parents will accept the death of their son. Mga naputol na pangarap because of such senseless and barbaric act. I can’t imagine na hindi man lang niya naibigay ang pinakakahahangad na UP diploma na sana’y naibigay na regalo sa kanyang mga magulang. He is a student leader and that means that his fellows really trust and look up to him. The responsibility they gave to him is a proof that he don’t deserve this kind of brutal act. I have read some comments in peyups.com saying na kasalanan din daw niya kung bakit nangyari yun. I can’t help myself to understand how these fellow students can say this things. Sana eh di muna logic at utak ang gamitin natin. Lagyan muna natin ng puso at konsensiya. Yeah I know that being oppositionist is such a great thing in UP culture but what the UP community need now is to share our part in condemning the act.

Like any other students in UP, he is just an ordinary student na siguro ay nakasalamuha at minsan ay nakabangaang balikat sa araw araw ng aking pagtira at pagaaral sa loob ng UP campus. Di ko alam na minsan pla eh nakasabayan ko na siya kumain ng isaw o tapsilog sa Roddicks. Baka namn ay nagkatabi na kami sa Ikot jeep at sa pagsurf sa Internet sa shopping center. May posibilidad din na nakapagtanong na ako sa kanya pag ako ay naliligaw sa campus. UP is a great place to live and live life. It nourishes its community not just intellectually but the whole life itself. What is good about it is the diversity of culture and the open-mindedness of its people. Pero minsan nasagi sa aking isipan na baka sa sinasabing UP culture nangaling ang problemang ito. Di kaya dahil sa “culture” ay nagyari ang pangyayaring ito.?
--He died on a monday morning. I remember I also went home late and drunk that early morning as my journal says. I can't just imagine na may pinapatay na pla while walking around campus at 1am-2am in the morning.

Yun ang self-description na kanyang inilagay sa kanyang friendster account. I don't know him personally but the I really felt sad when I heard the news about his death. How many lives na kailangan pang matapos bago maaksyunan ang napakatagal na problema ng fraternity hazings. Fraternities are not a bad thing for me. If you will ask me if I will be recruited, I will certainly think about it and there is a possibility that I'll join one. Brotherhood and camaraderie are really important values that every frat members must remember. You don't hurt your brother. You care for them. You help him to live a better and a happy life. YOU DO NOT KILL YOUR BROTHER!

I hope that the UP administration will fully cooperate to the investigation. It’s not a good thing that the case will not be resolve as soon as possible. The UP community have nothing to celebrate next year for the well planned centennial celebration if this case will not be resolve this year. Also, the students must also have part in condemning this act of violence. We must make sure that this will be the last death cause by fraternity initiations. With the leadership of a fellow International Center resident and USC chair Shahana Abdulwahid, I hope she must lead the community in pressuring the administration and the community in ensuring the safety of the whole UP community.

I found the best teacher in UP. It was our first day after 8 weeks of no classes for this semester. Finally , we had Prof. Adriano for our EDTECH206 subject who will continue what did Prof Soria started before he passed away last few weeks. Even the rain and the power outage didn't stop us t start the class for the first time. I just met her for 3 hours and I can say that she's one of my best teacher so far. According to her, there will be no more holiday's starting this week for us since we need to work a lot harder to cope up with the short time we have for this subject. Also, we will extend the semester for 3 weeks and a detailed syllabus was given to act as our 'bible'. :-) The discussion and the way she discusses the lesson is quite unique and I can use

Remembering a great man

It was a sad day. When I heard the news from my former roommate, I cannot believe (or accept) that our teacher, Dr. Robinson Soria is dead. Supposedly, we will have our class tonight and I still remember on how he was so excited to actually start and discuss the first lesson for our Edtech subject. He was actually surprised last meeting (Tuesday) that I was in his class since I came to class on the fourth week. I enrolled Edtech 206 because the teacher is Dr. Soria. He was too excellent that I always track whatever possible subject that he teach in every semester so that I can enrol and be included to his class.. Robin, as he prefers to call him, is such a genius. He is a College Secretary for 10 years and a future Dean for the College of Education. He is famous for his stories and intellectual ideas that you can ask every student in the College if he was a good teacher and the sure answer is a big “Yes”. Now he’s dead and one of the U.P. College of Education’s best professor is gone. But the ideas and ideals of Dr. Soria will live forever.

I went to class even though the news reached almost all of us, students, and we are sure that there will be no class for today. Went to class on time and almost all my classmates are present. You can feel the sadness and for the first time, no one is talking. It’s like an ordinary day waiting for our teacher to come in class. I know that we have the same feeling that we can’t still believe that our teacher is dead. He has a lot of plans for today’s class. He even told us last week that we will transfer to a computer laboratory to be more comfortable and we will use all the department’s resources to have an exciting class. Professor Leny Que(Dr. Soria’s friend) also went to our class to tell what really happened. As of now, he is still in the Morgue(Phil. Heart Center) since the College cannot find any relative here in Metro Manila. According to some, all of his sisters and brothers are now living outside the country while he’s dad and mom are victims of the September 11 attack in New York City last 2001.

Feel Good

New week.
New place.
New roommate
…(and even a new pair of shoes!:-p)

I’m quite lighten up after I transferred to a new place. I’m not saying that the International Center is better than the Pisay dorm but the feeling of having no responsibilities is just one reason to be grateful, Also, the fact that I will not meet, hear, smell .. the “evil” person makes my Monday a really good day.

After being sick the whole week last week, I woke up early today for work. The weather is actually good and energizing. My Japanese roommate is still sleeping when I left the room since he slept at around 3 am watching an anime movie in his laptop. He seems nice but we haven’t talked a lot since I arrived at around 11pm last night. One thing I noticed with Daiki is that he prefers talking in Tagalog rather than English. The problem is that his tagalong-speaking skill is quite limited too.
--
I had my breakfast today!
I don’t usually eat rice or anything during breakfast. But as a sign of a new week and promising not to skip the most important meal of the day, I went to the cafeteria to order an half fried rice and a cheesssy sausage. But at the end, I only ate half of the sausage and a bit of rice. Anyhow, that would be a best start for me.

When Class Starts

Its the first day of the class and that means it is the end of my two month summer break. I attended the first year orieWent to Powerbooks Makati after class and had grocery in the evening.
--
I gained 5 lbs for the past two months. From 138.5 lbs, now I am 143.5 lbs.
--
Also consulted my Graduate School adviser on what subjects I will take this 1st semester. She suggested that I need to finish the last core subject for the program (Edtech 206)of Dr. Robin Soria and another cognate subject either from Masscom, Lib Sci. But my kuya is insisting that I'll take the Video editing subject in College of Fine Arts. Still have this week to decide.

Former students are making "gaga" over my new hairstyle this summer. Don't know why. I'll have a new one next week :-)

Went to Ortigas yesterday to buy some clothes in PriceOff(store in Escriva Drive, Ortigas). After going to the store, I'm thinking of texting my kuya to tell him that I'm in the vicinity. I usually do that whenever I'm in Podium or Megamall since their office is in Discovery Suites. Unfortunately, I forgot that they already transferred in Makati( Market Market area) last Monday. That's why he is now thinking of resigning and transferring to another work or try his luck in Singapore. Hope he'll stay here in the Philippines since I'm not ready to take the responsibility that he have right now for our family.

This is to signify my intention to be re-admitted to the MA in Education (Major in Educational Technology) program of the UP College of Education.

I am Jayson P #$^^#”, with Student Number: XXXX-XXXXX, and last enrolled during the first semester of AY 2005-06, before taking an absence without leave from the graduate program. I decided to not enroll during the succeeding semester as my family was having a problem with our immediate finances, and that I wasn't able to formally file for leave of absence because I had to go back home and attend a serious health emergency of one member of my family.

In January of this year, I joined the Philippine Science High School Diliman Campus as a Special Science Teacher. Because of the expectations of this new job, I decided to continue my leave of absence. But now that everything has settled to its place, I find it imperative to continue with my graduate education. So far, I was able to acquire 12 credit units with an average of (1.33). I intend to continue as a part time graduate student and hopefully be re-admitted starting the second semester of the present academic year.

I am willing to submit any necessary documents for this request. Thank you, and I look forward to your understanding and to a favorable response.

In the afternoon, I called the UP-Educ College Secretary's office to follow up my application for my readmission next semester. But, the Graduate admission officer told me that there is still no decision about my case (absence without leave for a year) and I will still wait till Friday or next week for the decision of the College Secretary.

The students are very excited for next week’s Pisay Fair. One of the requirements of my students is to make posters for some events next week (Project Runway, Boothsto help the Batch 07 for the preparation. Hope that they will enjoy the upcoming Fair as a good start for third quarter in November.

Around U.P.

Just want to relax last night so I decided to walk in U.P. after working the whole day in school. It just monday but I really feel exhausted with the workload I have for the past days. I met 2 of my classmates in my M.A program in UP-Educ and asked me if I will enroll next semester since I'm now staying here in M.Manila. I'm not yet decided if will go back next semester eventhough I already submitted my application for re-admission to our college secretary for not filing LOA last semester. As I am walking around the campus, I notice some acacia trees uprooted by the typhoon last few weeks ago. Hope that some trees will be planted in place of the one destroyed by typhoon Milenyo. After 3 rounds of walking around the University oval, I proceeded to Shopping Center to eat my dinner and then went to Philcoa to get my clean clothes in the laundry shop. (What a boring life I have)
