MANILA, Philippines – A fire of still unknown origin hit a room inside the Philippine Science High School campus on Agham Road, Diliman, Quezon City before dawn Tuesday.
Chief Insp. Oscar Villegas, Quezon City Fire District Station 1 commander, told the Inquirer that arson probers were still investigating the cause of the blaze that destroyed the faculty room on the second floor of the school’s Humanities Building.
Villegas said there was nobody in the building when the fire broke out at 1:14 a.m. It destroyed teachers’ lockers, desks and documents such as test papers and lesson plans.
Firemen have yet to determine the damage caused by the blaze, which, fortunately, did not spread to nearby rooms in the building.
Villegas said the fire reached the third alarm before it was placed under control at 2:25 a.m. and put out 16 minutes later.

I was absent yesterday. I went home in Angeles to do some family stuff. It was early morning when I received a text message that the students do not have classes. But according to the text we need to go to the campus for an emergency meeting. I texted some of my friends in QC if its raining hard or if there is a typhoon as the reason for the cancellation of classes since I have no idea about the fire until I heard it on the radio.
---
The big problem now are the papers, submissions, grades, and lesson plans that were burned in the faculty room. According to my colleague, students will not have their classes this week so that the authorities can have their investigation and will check the damages of the building.

Supposedly, it was the first day of the 2nd periodical exams today. Some malicious people in forums and blogs are associating the fire with this. Personally, I dont think or will never think that our students will do such a stupid thing (to start a fire) just to miss or delay the examinations. They are the smartest and brightest kids in the country and for that they will never do that. Pisay students are not weird, nerds, or criminals. They are just ordinary high school students with great intellectual abilities. Some of them also cheats, cut class, etc like any other regular students.
